Happy Boy Locs

A few weeks ago we had a very special Saturday Spotlight. They are all special, but this one featured adorable Little K. And Little K is a BOY! Since we so rarely get to talk boy hair hair here on HGH,  Mommy K graciously agreed to check back in with us periodically to tell us about how Little K's locs are progressing.

Little K is three years old and has had his locs for a few months now. You can see the original Saturday Spotlight here and learn all about how Mommy K started his locs. Today, she discusses one of the issues that comes up as the locs are formed.
We're finally starting to really lock on the ends and that can look kind of funny. You get what I called strangled hairs. As the hair is twisted, it sometimes starts choking off other hair. So you can end up with small pea shaped chunks of hair that look kind of ratty. From what I've read that's a natural part of the locking process. You can just trim it off (or pull it off if it's really loose). We just hit the 3 mark month with locs and are starting to get some of those so I thought that might be good info for people interested in locs. My photo of that's not the best; it just looks like frizz. But really it's not. The end section is actually a tightly twisted section of hair that has started to separate from the main loc.

Thanks for the update Mommy K. His locs look great! Please keep the updates coming!

Are any of you considering locs for your child?  Have they had locs in the past? Do they currently have locs? Do you? If so, I'd love to hear about your loc journey in comments below.

BTW, do you know that Mommy K is the maker of the fabulous satin-lined hats at Mustard Seed Creations? I got a little envious of Little B and Little R's so I ordered one for myself. I can't wait to wear it.

I love locs, but my son's hair won't loc up at all. It doesn't even get tangled!

I am looking for lock advice. So glad you posted this! My husband is trying to lock his long hair and my son Z who is 10 is trying to grow out his hair so he can lock it. Last time he grew his hair out it was crazy, he was so tender-headed and impatient while I was trying to braid it that we ended up cutting his hair back short. He feels he is old enough now, so we're giving it another try. I'm sure the results would have been different had we started doing his hair from a young age instead of keeping it short...like we did my daughter. Thanks again for this post...and any locking products you can recommend or ideas would be hugely appreciated! Thanks~ Jennifer

Jennifer, That's exciting! Follow the link back to the original post on K's locs and you'll see how Mommy K started his locs and you'll find links to some really good resources.

Good luck with the locs!
